Undergraduate Research in ALEC
The Undergraduate Research Scholars (URS) program emphasizes professional and intellectual development. ALEC students who participate in URS program develop a close working relationship with faculty that can lead to scholarships, internships, jobs, international opportunities and admission to top graduate and professional programs. Perhaps most importantly, engaging in undergraduate research allows students to experience the excitement of creating new knowledge, solving cutting-edge problems and developing new insights—life skills that are increasingly important in our world.
In collaboration with industry partners, students address real-world problems. Students are responsible for planning their data collection strategy, implementing data collection, analyzing their data, developing project reports, and writing research manuscripts. Additionally, these projects lead to undergraduate theses, undergraduate and graduate student authorship of peer-reviewed publications with faculty, and technical reports that inform industry partners’ decisions.
