Graduate Assistantships

The department offers graduate teaching and research assistantship positions. Assistantships are available on a competitive basis to qualified individuals. Students interested in an assistantships should fill out a separate application and include a letter of interest, detailing your qualifications.

Graduate assistants are a highly valued part of academic programs in our department. Classroom and online courses carry high expectations for defining and communicating learning outcomes, lesson relevance, demonstrations and assessment, as well as providing mentorship and guidance for undergraduate student discovery. Research assistants help drive the research agendas to advance the land-grant mission of our department.

If interested in applying for financial support or assistantship positions, it is suggested that you submit your complete application materials by the early fall deadline. Applications may be submitted at any time and for any other admission deadline as positions may become available.

Graduate Assistantship Application

Position Descriptions

Specific assignments are made based upon the needs of the department and the experience of the students. Applicants may be asked to complete assessment testing to ensure they are equipped in their area. You may apply for more than one position, but your qualifications should closely match the position description. Agricultural Communications and Journalism Assistantship Description

Work with five faculty members in communications and journalism; assist with teaching undergraduate courses specifically related to communications theory, AP style, digital software and web applications, photography, public relations and audience research. The ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a large, dynamic department is required; flexibility to handle additional duties as assigned is a plus.

Agricultural Science Assistantship Description

Work with four faculty members in the area of teacher education; assist with teaching four undergraduate courses (AGSC 301, 384, 402, 405) specifically related to teacher education; assist with coordination of student teaching courses and supervision; provide a positive role model to undergraduates preparing for teacher certification in agricultural science; communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a large, dynamic department; other duties as assigned.

Agricultural Leadership Education Assistantship Description

This is a graduate student teaching assistant (TA) opportunity to work with seven leadership education faculty in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications. TA’s will be assigned to work with two to three courses a semester, including ALED 102, ALED 301, *ALED 340, *ALED 440 and ALED 481. These are the foundational courses of the agricultural leadership and development undergraduate degree.

Research Assistantship Description

Work with four faculty members focused on the area of training and development; assist with teaching
undergraduate courses specifically related to human resource development, adult learning and
instructional design; assist with coordination of classes; provide a positive role model to undergraduates preparing for work in the area of training and development; communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a large, dynamic, department; other duties as assigned.
