Professional Summary

Gary Wingenbach (Ph.D.) is a Professor and Associate Department Head for Graduate Programs in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications. He also is a Senior Scientist in the Norman Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture. Wingenbach earned a doctorate in agricultural education from Iowa State University in 1995 and has been at Texas A&M University since 2001. He has more than 30 years of experience in research, teaching, and outreach in agricultural and human resource development contexts, which began in 1985 with his U.S. Peace Corps service in Guatemala. Wingenbach specializes in creating transformative learning and research experiences in international settings. He teaches courses in social science research methods and life-long learning strategies in formal and non-formal settings. His research focuses on transformative and experiential learning. Wingenbach has mentored ~150 undergraduate and graduate students and 35 junior faculty members who produced ~500 publications. He received multiple awards for excellence in teaching and has successfully managed federally funded ($4.9M) research projects. Wingenbach’s service includes numerous roles with universities, professional societies, and government, including as a bilingual educator for the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Foreign Agricultural Service, U.S. Department of Labor, and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
