Professional Summary
Dr. Saldaña `88 (Agricultural Education) serves as the District Extension Administrator for the Southern District of Texas. He began his career as a public school teacher then moved into Extension working as an agricultural agent in Laredo and Raymondville, a specialist for the AmeriCorps program, and as the Director of the El Paso County Office before moving into his current position in 2006, where he is responsible for operations for the Southern District. He has spent his entire career working along the border of Texas from Brownsville to El Paso, working with youth, commercial agriculture, environmental issues, and most recently with Healthy South Texas, a food and health initiative of the Texas A&M University System. He was recognized in 2019 as a Regents Fellow and is a 35 year veteran of the agency. He also serves as a city commissioner and as the Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Mercedes. He is married to the former Dahlia Guajardo. He has two grown children working in San Marcos, one at Angelo State, and a son and daughter in law that are commercial and military pilots currently living in New Mexico. He has two granddaughters.
