Professional Summary
Cristina Guzmán is a Ph.D. student in the Texas A&M University Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication. Her research interests lie in the field of agricultural extension. This work addresses questions about adaptability and capacity building in rural communities throughout Latin America to improve their resilience to shock events, such as those brought on by climate change.
Cristina brings more than 17 years of experience in science communication, research development, operations, and management in academia, government, and industry. Aside from her studies, she is also the Associate Director of the Institute for a Disaster Resilient Texas. In this role, she serves on the institute’s Executive Team and works to develop and implement internal programs, build and strengthen its operational infrastructure, and expand the capabilities of the institute to better serve its students, staff, researchers, and stakeholders. Previously, as the Senior Research Development Officer for Texas A&M AgriLife Research, she assisted Texas A&M University professors with developing strategies for their research programs, proposal writing, and science communication. Cristina also led the proposal development team and edited proposal documents for responsiveness, persuasiveness, clarity, and consistency. In 2022, she was the lead Research Development Officer on the team that received an award of $65M from the USDA, the largest award in Texas A&M AgriLife’s history.
