Professional Summary
Emily Fuller is a research assistant and PhD student in the Texas A&M ALEC department. Fuller previously served as a high school agriculture teacher, FFA advisor, and coach in Northern California. Her M.S. thesis investigated the characteristics, uses, perceptions, and barriers of school farms. As a research assistant, Fuller works with Dr. Wald to address public science communication strategies via technoscientific sources. Fuller works with Dr. Leggette and the Texas Water Research Institute (TWRI). Her research is at the cross-section of agriculture, education, identity, and science communication rooted in the theories and principles of extension education, place and practice identity, perception, and framing which seek to make sense of practical issues aimed at improving communication and practices among agricultural producers, industry professionals, and formal scientists. Her research aims to understand the perceptions of identity in the context of agricultural place and practice, how place-based identity affects credibility, and how science communication and education can be tailored to specific audiences. Therefore, her research is broadly organized and informs three areas of inquiry: 1) setting agricultural place-based identity, 2) perceptions of message framing by audiences across different agricultural identities, and 3) agricultural education as an avenue for science communication.
