Professional Summary
Jack Elliot, Ph. D. is a professor in the Texas A&M Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications (ALEC) where he served two terms as the Department Head (DH). While DH, he initiated external and internal advisory committees that helped raise resources for a new agricultural mechanics facility, a video production laboratory, scholarships, etc. Currently, he serves as the Regional Director for Africa for the Norman Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture & Development. He served as president of the International Association for Agricultural and Extension Education (AIAEE) and was its first journal editor; is a member of the inaugural USAID Higher Education Learning Network Steering Group; and is the U.S. Associate for the Desert Research Foundation of Namibia. His initial faculty position was as assistant professor at Michigan State University. In 1992, he relocated to The University of Arizona where he moved through the ranks and was promoted to professor and served as Head of the Department. Prior to his career in academia, Jack and his wife Maureen were dryland grain farmers and cattle ranchers in Belt, Montana. Even after they left farming, he continued a custom harvesting business for 17 years.
