Professional Summary

Briers is a professor in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications. He has been a faculty member here since 1980. School year 2026-2027 is his 55th year in teaching in public school. He is a former teacher of vocational agriculture in the Sweeny, Texas, ISD, for three years (1972-1975). He then spent five years at Iowa State University—three as an instructor (1975-1978) and doctoral graduate student and two as an assistant professor (1978-1980) before returning to this, his alma mater. His areas of interest and expertise include teacher education in agriculture and rural schools and communities. He has extensive international experience in Costa Rica, Russia, Peru, Amenia, Iraq, and Haiti.

In addition to his faculty work, he is owner/operator of Briers Simmental Ranch and Briers Ranch Primitive Camping (via Hipcamp). He is married to his high school sweetheart since 1970, and they are parents of two children, both of whom are Aggies. Of his four grandchildren, three are Aggies.

As a first generation college graduate, Briers has “led” three siblings, a sister-in-law, three nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews to Aggieland and TAMU degrees.
