Professional Summary
Carmen Benson is an Assistant Lecturer and Doctoral Candidate in the Texas A&M University Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications. Her research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of program evaluation, locally-led and inclusive program development, and evidence-based decision making in policy and education. She leads undergraduate instruction as an Assistant Lecturer for ALEC425: Program Evaluation and ALED339: Cooperative Extension and the Land Grant Mission. A doctoral candidate, her dissertation research seeks to advance understanding of the impacts of youth agricultural education programs toward broader development objectives for food security, health, education, and gender equality. As a Scholar-Practitioner, Benson has 13+ years of experience leading and supporting capacity building programs, emphasizing inclusive agricultural education, research, and extension systems in Benson is a combat veteran as a former non-commissioned officer in the Army National Guard, a former Fulbright Specialist, and recognized nationally for volunteer service. She currently serves as President of the Association of International Agricultural and Rural Development (AIARD) and an active member of AIAEE, AEA, and NACTA. Her previous experience includes volunteer, Fulbright Specialist, military, and technical assignments in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, and Timor-Leste.
