Former Students Recognized as Aggie 100 Award Winners
By: Mollie Lastovica Four former students of the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications have been recognized as recipients of the 2013 Aggie 100 Award. Initiated by Mays Business School’s Center for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship, the Aggie 100 recognizes 100 Aggie-owned and Aggie-led businesses for their growth rate and success. Eligible companies are those that have been in business for five or more years with revenues of $250,000 or more for a specified year. Extension Professionals Learn the Ropes through Extension Foundations, Program Excellence Academies I, II
By: Mollie Lastovica Texas A&M AgriLife Extension professionals from across the state gathered in College Station Nov. 12-15 for Extension Foundations and Program Excellence Academy workshops. Organized and implemented by the Organizational Development branch of Extension, the series of workshops helps familiarize new County Extension Agents and Specialists with the functions and programs housed within Extension. Students Attend Professional Development Conference in Kansas City
By: Mollie Lastovica Four students in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications attended in the National Association of Farm Broadcasters Annual Conference in Kansas City, Mo., Nov. 13-15. Graduate Students Serve, Study through Peace Corps Master’s International Program
By: Mollie Lastovica Three graduate students in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications have stepped outside the boundaries of College Station and are working internationally through the Peace Corps Master’s International program. Holly Van Groll, Kevin Fath and Orry Pratt are not only serving as Peace Corps volunteers, but also, they are gaining valuable research and educational experience while living abroad. ALEC Faculty Train South Sudan Military
By Caitlin Powers Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication faculty assisted South Sudan with training military on growing food. Part of a State Department project with the Norman Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture, assistant professor Robert Strong, Ph.D., and Continuing education assistant professor Kirk Edney, Ph.D., traveled to Juba, South Sudan November 14 to 26. “The military has created an agricultural battalion but they do not know how to raise food because they have been in a civil war for decades,” Strong said.
