                                    Distinguished Achievement

The Association of Former Students’ Distinguished Teaching Award-College Level will be presented on October 6th at the COALS Faculty Meeting to Dr. Tracy Rutherford.

This award is presented to professors to recognize, encourage and reward the superior classroom teacher.  The recipients are in command of their respective discipline, teaching methodologies, pervasive caring, communication skills, and commitment to the learning process.  Recipients exemplify the meaning of teacher/mentor in its highest sense. This award is designed to distinguish those teachers who maintain high expectations of their students and who insure academic rigor in their courses. Distinguished teachers recognize their responsibility in motivating and contributing to the overall development of the student.

Congratulations to Dr. Rutherford!

                                               Aggie Bash 2006

Aggie Bash 2006 was held on July 25 in Amarillo, Texas, in conjunction with the State Agricultural Science Teachers’ Professional Improvement Conference. A tradition since 1983, Aggie Bash is much more than a get-together of former Aggie ag teachers; rather, it serves as a fundraiser to assist in the professional development of new Aggie ag teachers by paying first-year dues to their professional organization, the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas.

Aggie Bash 2006 was a huge success with over 140 former students, family and friends in attendance. A BBQ dinner and live auction with over 45 donated auction items ranging from furniture to quilts to artwork and candles provided fun, funds, and entertainment! Over $5000 was raised to pay first-year professional dues for 21 new Aggie ag teachers.

Students enrolled in AGED 380, Learning to Lead – Agricultural Science Workshop, were largely responsible for the success of this event. They created and organized the table decorations, presentation, and auction items. AGSC students enrolled in this course included: Kori Adams, Ashley Boehnke, Roxie Ely, Linsdey Fitzgerald, Roxanne Herbrich, Wes Howell, Crystal Machacek, Robert Myatt, Rachel Valenti, Shelly Vasbinder, Amber Vincent, and Andrea Watts.

We look forward to Aggie Bash 2007 in Arlington, Texas, on July 31.
