For Spring, admission materials are due by October 1.  Applications will also be accepted until June 1 for Fall, however, meeting this deadline, you will not be eligible for any financial assistance by the department or eligible for other funding opportunities.

To apply for full admission into the department, the Office of Graduate Admissions and Records at Texas A&M University requires the following items:

  • TAMU Application: Complete the online Texas Common Graduate Application accompanied by a $50 application fee ($90 for international applicants)
  • Official transcripts: Transcripts must be submitted from each higher education institution previously attended
  • Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores: must be taken within past five years. Scores must be requested from the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and sent electronically using Texas A&M University code 6003.

How GRE score is used in Admission Review:
To be reviewed for admission to one of our programs, an individual must meet a minimum criterion score in order to be considered for a vote by the faculty.  This criterion score is calculated using the individual percentile scores of the GRE and the GPA (Masters - last 60 hours of undergraduate work; Doctoral - Masters GPA). The minimum criterion score for Master’s is 350; minimum criterion score for doctorate is 400.

However, if the GRE was taken prior to August 1, 2011, your scores and GPA meet each category below and you have a declared Departmental Graduate Faculty interim major advisor, you may be admitted automatically without a faculty vote:

Master’s applicants:  GRE-V  410, GRE-Q  500, GRE-W  4.0, and at least a GPA of 3.1.
Doctoral applicants:  GRE-V  450, GRE-Q  500, GRE-W  4.0, and at least a GPA of 3.7.

If the GRE was taken after August 1, 2011, your percentile scores and GPA meet each category below and you have a declared Departmental Graduate Faculty interim major advisor, you may be admitted automatically without a faculty vote:

Master’s applicants:  GRE-V% 36, GRE-Q% 26, GRE-W% 41, and at least a GPA of 3.1.
Doctoral applicants:  GRE-V% 48, GRE-Q% 26, GRE-W% 41, and at least a GPA of 3.7.

All applicants must have a faculty member to agree to serve as the interim major advisor.

  • Official TOFLC or IELTS scores: International applicants only must submit scores less than two years old. Scores are sent electronically using the Texas A&M University code 6003. (See Office of Graduate Studies for directions for waivers)
  • In May 2011, the Texas State Legislature passed SB 1107, effective immediately, requiring all entering students under the age of 30 at public and private institutions of higher education to provide evidence of vaccination against bacterial meningitis or a signed affidavit declining the vaccination. This documentation must be submitted to the TAMU Office of Admissions and Records prior to your enrollment in any courses.

Non-Degree Admission Information (G6)

Under certain circumstances, an individual may be admitted as a post-baccalaureate non-degree seeking graduate student (G6). If admitted, up to twelve (12) credit hours taken in this status may apply to a degree program at Texas A&M-College Station. To apply, an individual must: 1) submit a post-baccalaureate non-degree seeking application through Apply Texas to TAMU; 2) submit the required application processing fee; and 3) submit a complete official transcript that indicates the completion of a baccalaureate degree (if other than TAMU). Materials required for the department include:  1) to submit a current resume; and 2) submit a statement of purpose. A faculty member must be willing to be your major professor during this admission status as well.
